The Silence of Power: Are Arab States Complicit in Palestine’s Tragedy?”

For over seven decades, the Palestinian people have endured occupation, displacement, and systematic violence at the hands of Israel. Yet, many Arab states—despite their cultural and religious ties—have not only remained passive but in some cases have formed diplomatic, economic, and even security ties with Israel.

1. Arab Normalization and Silence

The Abraham Accords (2020), brokered by the United States, led to normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations including the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. (Source: U.S. Department of State, 2020)

While proponents claim these agreements promote regional peace, critics argue they betray the Palestinian cause by sidelining Palestinian rights in favor of economic and strategic gains. (Source: Al Jazeera, 2020)

Even powerful Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, while not officially normalizing ties, have shown increasing openness to indirect cooperation. This shift reflects a prioritization of political expediency over principled solidarity.

2. Economic Influence and Western Support

Israel is not invincible because of military strength alone. Much of its impunity stems from the financial and media influence wielded by global Zionist networks. As of 2023:

• Jewish individuals make up approximately 2% of the U.S. population, yet are significantly represented among America’s most powerful financiers and media executives. (Source: Pew Research Center, Forbes)

• The AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) remains one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, influencing U.S. foreign policy in favor of Israel. (Source: The Intercept, 2022)

Due to this influence, U.S. military aid to Israel exceeds $3.8 billion annually, irrespective of its human rights violations. (Source: U.S. Foreign Assistance, 2023)

3. Global Inaction and Selective Morality

International organizations, including the UN, have issued hundreds of resolutions condemning Israel’s actions, but enforcement is either blocked by U.S. veto power in the Security Council or diluted through political bargaining. (Source: UN Archives)

Meanwhile, nations like Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan continue to offer moral support, but lack the economic leverage to impact Western policy.

• Iran, under U.S. sanctions, supports resistance movements like Hezbollah and Hamas but is diplomatically isolated.

• Turkey has oscillated between condemnation and trade with Israel.

• Pakistan does not recognize Israel and has consistently voiced concern at international forums.

4. The Rise of China and a Changing World Order

As China emerges as a global superpower—both economically and militarily—the global balance is slowly shifting.

• China is now the world’s largest trading nation, surpassing the U.S. in total exports and imports. (Source: World Bank, 2023)

• In March 2023, China brokered a peace deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia, something the U.S. had failed to do for decades. (Source: BBC News, 2023)

This signifies China’s potential role as a counterweight to Western dominance and possibly, a future deterrent to Israel’s unchecked actions—if Beijing chooses to align its foreign policy with global justice.

Conclusion

The tragedy of Palestine is not just rooted in Israeli oppression. It is deeply intertwined with Arab apathy, Western hypocrisy, and a global order dominated by financial interests over human rights. The question now is: will the Arab world, with its vast resources and moral responsibility, rise to defend its own? Or will new powers like China step in where others have failed?

History will judge not only the aggressors but also those who remained silent in the face of oppression.
